Biographical information
Ms. Froehlich has worked in the field of international education for over 30 years. Coming from an immigrant family, she was exposed to other languages and cultures at an early age and quickly developed an interest in becoming multilingual and traveling.
Marion has a Bachelor's degree in French Language and Institutions from the University of California, Berkeley (which included a year spent at the University of Paris-Sorbonne and the Ecole du Louvre), a secondary teaching credential in French, and a Master's degree in Linguistics from the University of California, Davis.
Ms. Froehlich began her career as a French teacher at a college preparatory high school. After six years of teaching French, she decided to use her skills in a university environment and became the Education Abroad Program Director at the University of California, Davis where she recruited students to study abroad, guided them through the application and selection process, coordinated pre-departure orientations, and also organized orientation for the university's incoming international students. Subsequently she became the Assistant Director of the International Intercultural Studies Program for the University System of Georgia based in Atlanta. In this position she developed and implemented study abroad programs for community college and four-year university students. However, California soon beckoned her to return home where she was given the opportunity to learn the immigration regulations as they apply to non-immigrant students while working for National University in San Diego, CA. There she became the Immigration Specialist. This experience rounded out her career to include both outbound and inbound college-age students. Ms. Froehlich also has had stints as the Coordinator of the Institute of International Perspectives at MiraCosta College in Oceanside, CA; International Student Adviser at California State University-San Marcos, San Marcos, CA; and Education Abroad Adviser at the University of California-San Diego, La Jolla, CA. Her most recent position was with San Diego City College where she served for almost 14 years as International Education Coordinator (IEC) and Immigration Specialist, a unique opportunity which utilized all her skill sets. As IEC, she developed and implemented 13 study abroad programs both for the summer and the semester in Mexico, Italy, France, Argentina, and Costa Rica.
Marion has traveled extensively around the world to almost all countries in Western and Eastern Europe; many countries in Latin America; China, Hong Kong, North Africa, and Australia. She speaks fluent French, is conversational in Spanish, and has a working knowledge of German. In addition to her junior year abroad in Paris, she has also participated in intensive language programs in Mexico, Spain, Peru, Brazil, and France.
Ms. Froehlich wants to share her passion for languages and other cultures and the enriching experiences one can have by hosting international students and studying in another country. She looks forward to working with you.
